ABOUT · SEOUL SOUL CLUB

WHO WE ARE

Seoul Soul Club is a virtual music project borrowing the language of older genres to create scenes that belong to now.

Yankee Boys in studio

We do not imitate the past. We make its energy move again.

Kimyang and Yankee Boys move across soul, funk, jazz, bossa nova and house within one shared world. Period texture lives in the recordings and photographs; every story begins in present-day Seoul.

The artist may be virtual, but the method is concrete. Each record begins with a place, a time and a motion, then develops sound and image as one system.

KIMYANG

A voice that can speak softly and still hold the centre of a groove. Kimyang connects the time and place of each record into a single scene.

YANKEE BOYS

Bass, keys and drums move while leaving space for one another. Yankee Boys turn older performance languages into a pace that belongs to today.

HOW WE BUILD A RECORD

Every record begins with four decisions.

  1. 01

    PLACE

We begin with a space where the music can live: a Seoul alley, a late bar or a road before dawn.

  2. 02

    TIME

A precise hour gives the record its light, air and temperature.

  3. 03

    MOTION

Walking, driving or dancing sets the physical speed that carries the whole record.

  4. 04

    ARCHIVE

Sound, photography, cover art and words are finished in one tone and kept as a single archive.

SOUL · FUNK · JAZZ · BOSSA · HOUSE

A Seoul night that refuses one genre

Groove is always the centre. Whether the music moves from soul into jazz and bossa nova or onward to disco and house, it aims for rhythm the body remembers first.
